Re: 2013 RULES: Anonymous Bidding
I voted to keep it as it is because I have nothing to hide. I like to know who is bidding against me and who is doing what that seems spitefull.
As for sportznut's claim that nothing can be gained, I like to know how many other positional players he is bidding against along with my guy and how much money he has.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one.charlie813brown wrote:sportznut wrote: Umm, actually it is make believe, and real teams with real money don't drive the price up on a guy they have no intention of signing. The reality is IRL, we always hear rumors, but the majority of the time its simply agents trying to get their players more money.
IRL if you were throwing out money foolishly towards players you didn't truly want in order to stick it to another team, you wouldn't be a GM for very long.
We can't simulate every single aspect of FA where a player will go to a better team rather than the highest bidder either, and when you're dealing with MAKE BELIEVE money, you can artificially drive up the price of your rivals with no intention of ever signing the guy. With the option to cut or trade them immediately, there isn't a big enough penalty towards teams using this practice.
You can't give me one good reason why its important to you to know WHO is bidding. If your intent is to sign "x" player, then it doesn't matter who is bidding. Only people with ill intentions wouldn't like this rule.
That is not true, if I know what players a team is bidding on and how is cap is structured, I know what he can possibly bid. I also know if he is bidding on multiple players at the same position or just one.
What about a rule that requires you to keep a signed player on your roster for X months. Also, anyone who drives up the price and gets stuck with a player, only hurts their cap. We should look to kick these GMs out, not make rules to hurt good GMs
Cap space is a moving target. Trying to figure out what a team has to spend is beyond worthless since players can always be cut, traded, restructured, and so forth if a FA is signed.

Re: 2013 RULES: Anonymous Bidding
Since it does look like we are aiming to go this route I just had a question arise, during free agency period we've always done it so that the team who currently holds the UFA gets unlimited bidding. If we do the blind bidding then I am curious how that works. The 2 scenarios I come up with is 1) tough luck, pay your player or lose him, or 2) what if we went something like a team bids on a UFA, and is the highest bidder, what if the team who currently has UFA gets a chance to raise the offer and then the new bidding team has a chance to raise until finally one team bows out. They dont have to know who each other is, but this way gives a chance for original team to keep player? It doesn't really matter to me, more so just curious on what is the situation with that.

Yes - List the bids but always hide the team names associated with those bids.
Thats the winning vote right now, its not blind bidding. Just anon bidding. You'll know the bids and if your high you'll know that. You just wont know which other teams are bidding on them.

Plus, if Troy takes my alerts idea and runs with it, you'll know when every single player of yours has a bid on it.

Its not blind bidding at all. Just hides the names of the teams doing the bidding. You still know the amount of every bid placed, and the current high bid.

Okay yeah I'm all for it. Was just confused if the unlimited bidding was still going to exist and I could not find it. I'd like the alert pop up you propose Sportznut.

Well, Troy has his hands full, but this is something I've brought up numerous times over the years. I truly hope this is the year he gets it done. It would be beneficial to every GM here, but I disgress.tino38 wrote:Okay yeah I'm all for it. Was just confused if the unlimited bidding was still going to exist and I could not find it.
