Normally the draft starts the day after the NFL's 1st round. This year we didn't get free agency started in time because of the addition of long-term contract extensions, which led to extra programming time for Goodell.

We have this discussion every year. Some of us are in favor of having shorter windows because there can be a lot of dead time when teams aren't around to draft before their time slot (once a team picks the next team is able to pick regardless of when their slot is, so if they aren't around there will be an hour or so of no picks going on). Others are in favor of having longer windows so they have can plan to be online at that time and still have a chance to make deals.

It seems to me that our current system is a good compromise. One round per day, 20 minute windows. It has worked for the last couple years and though none of us seem to get exactly what we envision for the draft (the vegas idea sounds awesome by the way), we also don't get exactly the opposite of what we want.

I see no reason to change the time windows or the number of rounds per day.

I agree. One round per day is about right. There isn't a perfect answer, (though Vegas idea is close) so I think like Ben stated, it's a good compromise for both sides.

You're now on my shit list for bringing up Suggs. :)

My CFFL Lions took a hit in the offseason with some FA departures I couldn't afford, and now in the last two days, I got a 4 game suspension for Will Smith, and a serious injury to another guy in my front 4.

My depth is being challenged early on with little money to work with.

I say the commish chimes in and just says how it is going to be. And the rest of us will just have to deal with it.

We can nitpick all day, all week, all year.

I think a few injuries and spoilers before we get the draft done has about .00001% of an effect on the realism of this league and probably draft strategies as well. Upshaw is still the same player that he was before Suggs got hurt and from my perspective as a GM, the injury would have zero bearing on his talent evaluation.
And also, I don't think we should change anything about the way we have conducted the draft in the past, but do believe it would be more fair to kick it off on a weekend so the max # of GMs can be available. It sucks on draft day waiting to hear back about a trade from someone who isn't even there.
