Re: 2012 Off-Season Dates
are we any closer to determining the day that free agency would start?
Re: 2012 Off-Season Dates
As we get closer to LTC decisions and finishing up those discussions, I'll probably work this weekend to add tag/RFA/LTC options to team rosters. From there, some of the timeline would depend upon watching how many GMs have completed that part of it. I'd think we'd give people at least a week to choose their tags or set RFA compensation and LTC someone prior to free agency.gmen43 wrote:are we any closer to determining the day that free agency would start?
I think we'll also turn the ability to make some other transactions on this weekend. Teams will probably be able to start making cuts soon, as well as the others mentioned for tagging and re-signing LTCs. We may also turn on trades earlier than starting free agency depending upon how all the other processes are going (fill vacancies, team decisions entered on pending free agents, programming updates, etc.)
I could see next week having some functionality turned on, trades following weekend, and free agency perhaps the start of that next week. Not that we'd be able to adjust for everyone, but I think that also fit with schedules people have posted for time they were away.

Re: 2012 Off-Season Dates
Does that mean pushing back the draft? I'm not sold 1 week of free agency is enough, but I know there's people who want it done asap.
I kind of need to know, because I'll be traveling to the camp on April 28 or 29 due to the early spring. If it was the following weekend, I'd have no problem making my picks.

Re: 2012 Off-Season Dates
I think that by turning trades on by Monday or Tuesday will clear up a lot for people on what they want to do for Free Agency, and RFA/unrestricted and if they need/want to LTC a player. Just to give guys a little bit of an idea of what they need to do for Free Agency, before it starts by allowing trades would clear up quite a bit, IMO.

Re: 2012 Off-Season Dates
I think we'd get almost two business weeks of free agency before the draft as the real one starts thursday of the following week and we always delay our draft from the real one so teams know where the real players went (and we use that NFL draft order as our default if teams miss picks and no queue).Jared A wrote:Does that mean pushing back the draft? We can get a poll on our draft start dates going and see if any choice is most popular. I think last year was a little different with lockout situation, and kind of thinking with the move to Thursday start that we talked about ours starting on that weekend (so later rounds still going on in reality when we start our first round) or at the start of the following week after the NFL draft was completely over. As we tend to go into a slow period after free agency and the draft are over, and if FA starts late, I'm okay with the draft perhaps happening a little later to give time for FA to finish and if that's supported by most. We can't accomodate everyone's travel situations with nearly 100 members across 3 leagues, but I definitely wanted to know from GMs about dates that wouldn't work to factor that in also (especially if multiple people/leagues impacted). Thanks to all, including you, for letting us know those to at least consider in the scheduling. I'll thinking a little more on schedules and probably have a FA and draft start date polls up to get feedback and see if certain dates are the most popular amongst most.
