I think something is amiss with the way the system figures salaries.
I've been short on cash for most of the season, so have been very careful not to get into a situation that would put me over the cap.
It is very important to me as a GM to be in compliance with the rules set forth by commish.
I could be wrong, it happens quite often, but if I am, I need it explained to me so that I won't make the same mistake again in the future.
Bears - AFFL
Signed Joey Iosefa 12/27
cut Joel Iosefa 12/28
435,000 salary
cap hit - 99,342
divided by 16 game checks, or is it 17?
435,000 / 16 = 27,187
435,000 / 17 = 25,588
Either way, for a one game check charge I definitely shouldn't be charged 99,342
49ers - DFFL
Signed Fitz Touissant 12/27
Cut Glenn Winston 12/28
Both 435k guys, replacing one with the other, so how do I end up $24,420 over the cap?
Probably this has to do with the weeks getting mixed up because we are so far behind. Or maybe my math skills are deteriorating with age.
Just thought I would bring this to attention because I don't think my team should be over the cap in either situation.

Re: Over the cap
My guess would be the weeks because they aren't lined up because we are behind.

Re: Over the cap
Im having the same issue with Joey Iosefa where it cost me 115,899 for one week on my roster. I also signed him for 435,000.

Re: Over the cap
If I'm not mistaken, I believe that there is now a minimum for time on a roster. I remember discussing it in the offseason, but don't remember what was decided. Too many people were signing a player for 1 game and then cutting them. So there may be a 2 or 3 game cap hit if you sign and cut. Not sure, but this would make sense.
Re: Over the cap
My understanding was that there would be a one game check charge for anyone signed, even if you cut him immediately.
That's the way it has been in the past.
I can understand the desire to not have "sign & cuts", but there are plenty of similar transactions in real nfl where players are brought in for one week only, to cover for injuries, suspensions, etc.

This happened to Leonard Hankerson just the other day. He was a Patriot I believe for 10 days.RebelFan wrote:My understanding was that there would be a one game check charge for anyone signed, even if you cut him immediately.

Re: Over the cap
I've have also seen a "cumulative" effect when signing a cutting players. Example: player made original 53 man roster was cut after week 4 and charged 4 games checks. Player is cut to practice squad for weeks 5 and 6 but resigned for week 7. Player is then cut for before week 8 but instead off counting on additional game check against cap the player's hit is for 7 game checks. That is in addition to the 4 game checks he received being cut the first time. When I initially brought this up, I had over $5M in cap space so I didn't press the issue, now it's slowly chipped away at cap space following injuries and a lot of back and forth with fringe players for me.

Re: Over the cap
I have a problem with someone signing a player off your practice squad but you can't match because we are so far behind. I know if we weren't behind then GMs would have roster space due to players getting injured.
