2013 Draft Date
Re: 2013 Draft Date
I would not mind the draft taking longer than it does now, more like 1 round a day or even less and jsut do it in the evenings.
Re: 2013 Draft Date
While I don't with everyone here, I respects their opinions, and this why a voting process exists. However, one thing I can't get behind is the notion that extra 5 minutes is going to make anyone more informed on a guy when we've all had months to prepare, or that it truly matters much in the 6th-7th rounds when 99% of those players will bust out. Its not as if we only could research someone from the time Troy turned on the draft tools. If you haven't done your hw by the time your pick is due, you might as well flip a coin.

I assure you I've done my homework, sport. I have a spreadsheet that has nearly 300 players in it, and I've researched nearly every one of them in depth.sportznut wrote:While I don't with everyone here, I respects their opinions, and this why a voting process exists. That said, I don't know which of the 300 players will be at the top of my queue when my team is on the clock. Once I do know, I like to take one more look at the ones at the top.
As for the "99% of those players will bust out," that depends on your drafting. From 2008-2012, I've had 37 picks in the 6th and 7th rounds between the AFFL and CFFL. Out of those picks, I've drafted the following players who I don't consider to have been a "bust." Each has started some games in the NFL:
- RB Justin Forsett (77 rating now)
- LB Brad Jones (76)
- OL Ramon Harewood (74)
- SS Kurt Coleman (70)
- LB Joe Mays (79)
- WR Brandon Gibson (79)
- WR Antonio Brown (86)
The 6th and 7th rounds are a great place to find depth for your team, as long as you draft well. I think 7 out of 37 is pretty good - that's nearly 20%.

Re: 2013 Draft Date
Amen got that right. I was just proposing an idea for a notification just like the one I get for a new PM. Just a thought on something that would make it better, and easier. I honestly can't do any of this at work. It just doesn't allow for it in my position, secured network, and it also supports the activity piece for GM's to keep them here when they need to be, or to step away to be here momentarily and stay involved.jacobsaces wrote:Absolutely longer draft. I work nights and my picks are during the day so being awake and alert to make last minute trades and such just won't happen. I read the comments about homework being done ahead of time and that would be great but married 3 kids its just not as easy to stay up to date with every rookie coming in as it used to be for me. I have 6 picks today all 6th and 7th round guys is there really guys available that you spot without a little research that you want? gonna be rough day and I just got off 12 hour shift will go back tonight. Absolutely no reason to not make the draft longer. Give everyone time to make much smarter informed decisions about their rosters.
One thing I get sick of here a little is when an idea is proposed that's different, or maybe proposes something out of the norm (not against league policy) that there are a certain number of people that just immediately go trashing it essentially stating I'm the f*n anti-christ for bringing up such an idea.

Re: 2013 Draft Date
Also depending on the direction of the draft if there was a recent run on LB's and the last one available that I consider at that level yet he's my 3rd on the que It might be wise to pass up my 1st 2 options. A draft should be as it is in the NFL where everyone and every team is paying attention to every detail so at any moment depending on what happens you can decide to trade up or down or take a certain position over another simply based on what is actually happening in the draft. And of course those teams all have war rooms. I have had trade offers and messages sent that I have simply ignored if it wasn't something I was interested in. Where in perfect situation at least I should respond or negotiate but I've been pressed for time. While 5 minutes is really not enough I have been at it an hour this morning and will have to wake up early as well.. Also sacrificing making love to my wife. Just FYI.. Make no mistake though I think we should have more time I'm loving every minute of it.

Ben, I'm not saying you can't get value, but most of those guys are just roster filler at best. Perhaps bust is the wrong wording.Ben C. wrote:I assure you I've done my homework, sport. You made a suggestion that I disagreed with. You know what they say about opinions. Nothing personal Lucifer.lucky7jc wrote:Amen got that right. Still, if you don't want to be drafting in the late rounds, go ahead and send me your picks. I love the late rounds just as much as the rest.sportznut wrote: Ben, I'm not saying you can't get value, but most of those guys are just roster filler at best. Perhaps bust is the wrong wording.

Re: 2013 Draft Date
Its not that I don't. Its b/c I can't dedicate that much time to the entire draft itself with work. You know I like finding a diamond in the rough as much as the next guy. That's why I normally trade the late picks away. If you want them, you'll have to ask Onyx for some.Ben C. wrote:Still, if you don't want to be drafting in the late rounds, go ahead and send me your picks. Re: 2013 Draft Date
I agree with Jacob in that I've had my queue set up but almost every time I've made a pick it hasn't been the top guy in my queue because of what happened in the 2 or 3 picks before me.
Between my CFFL and AFFL teams I had 16 picks in the 2nd/3rd round alone which was all condensed into one day. Now I'm a college student in the middle of finals week so I didn't have a problem sitting on here all day wasting my time but at some point I had to get up and eat and ending up missing a pick. If the draft was spread out over 7 days instead of 4 with longer time windows or only in the afternoon it would be a lot better.
For those of you saying "I do my homework so I like it done quickly." there's nothing stopping you from doing all your homework on the weekend of the draft like you are now. Sure, allowing other GM's a chance to research some more might hurt you but not everyone does a ton of research and is making 300 player spreadsheets like Ben haha.
If people think the 6th/7th round picks don't matter than make rounds 1, 2, 3 (maybe 4 and 5) all their own day and then double up 6 and 7.
