2012 Draft Preferences
2012 Draft Preferences
Based upon people's posted schedules (and of course we can't accodate all but take it into consideration) and what's left to do with finishing up free agency and giving teams time to prepare for their draft, I'm thinking Saturday May 12 or Monday 14 seem like good dates to start. I believe we tend to do Monday starts, but starting on 5/12 might have the least amount of conflicts of the information posted. It would give us two weekend days and two work days.
We have draft windows. Teams will know their pick is on the clock between certain times. If they aren't there it picks based upon your list of pre-ranked players. If you don't have a list or all selected form your list, it defaults to top available guy based upon NFL draft selection order. But ideally it helps busier people knowing their pick is due at a certain time to try to be around a computer then.
There were some comments in the past about things dragging and too much time between picks and more than 1 round per day would be better, so we'll put up some options about that.
My suggestion would be a little similar to how the NFL does it, but extending from their 3-day draft to a 4-day for us. That would be day 1 - round one. Day 2 - rounds 2-3. Day 3 - rounds 4-5. Day 4 - rounds 6-7. But we'll also have an option for one round per day and see what people prefer.
Last year it was 20 minute windows in rounds 1-2 and 15 minute windows in rounds 3-7. That may or may not change based upon support for one round per day or two and how it works out mathematically, but probably more like 10 minute windows with 2 rounds per day.

Re: 2012 Draft Preferences
After the draft the league gets really slow... Why do people want to rush through it? A round a day is enough. Gives plenty of times to make trades.

One, not everyone has a full week at their disposal to be here "live" for the draft, and two, you can trade your pick with plenty of opportunities BEFORE you're actually on the clock.Strategist wrote:After the draft the league gets really slow... 10-15 minutes is PLENTY of time. Anything beyond that is just too damn long.

Well I cant sit at my computer for 3 days in a row. I work nights quite a bit. There are times where some people like to make trades if players fall in the draft.

Neither can I. If I can't sit for 3 days in a row, why would I be able to sit for 7?Strategist wrote:Well I cant sit at my computer for 3 days in a row. I work nights quite a bit. There are times where some people like to make trades if players fall in the draft.
If you start the draft on the weekend, and get the bulk of the early rounds done over the weekend, you get the highest percentage of people that can be here.
I say this knowing full well that I often work Saturdays.
I think 10-15 minutes is plenty of time, but if others disagree so be it.
I just hate auto drafting, so if we set a date I'll probably make sure I'm here for the 1st/2nd round as much as humanly possible, and deal with the rest of the rounds being queued up if necessary.

COLLEGE GRADUATIONS ARE ON MAY 12TH!
Re: 2012 Draft Preferences
That's kind of why I was asking people to put down dates that wouldn't work for them so we could try to find some that would for most. Can't find one date that works for nearly 100 people, and the draft will go either 4 or 7 days anyway with the option of pre-ranking players ahead of time and knowing exactly when a pick is due precisely ahead of time, but can at least take the times submitted into consideration.
