In some rules discussions last free agency about sign-and-trade issues, LTCs came up and there was some discussion about whether all LTC options should include a 1-year no-trade.
Currently just shorter 2- or 3-year deals have no-trades, with 4- and 5-year options available for trade.
Realistically you wouldn't tend to see players sign a long-term contract extension with their home team and then be traded away shortly after. If a player puts their name on a contract with their home team, and a GM announces the signing of one of their own, it's usually realistically for them to stay for at least that upcoming season.
There are some options still for those teams looking to get value out of players in some of those situations (as some NFL teams have done). The best option would be to tag the player, sign them to their 1-year tender salary, trade them as an active roster player to a new team, and then that new team could sign them using their LTC to a long-term deal with them.

Re: 2019 RULES: LTC No Trade
If we trade for a franchise tagged player are we going to be able to sign him to the usual LTC value or are we going to have to sign him at 120% of the franchise tag value. I'm assuming it would be the latter, so I don't see that happening very often.

Re: 2019 RULES: LTC No Trade
CONCLUSION: With nearly 70% support, we'll make all LTC extensions signed have a 1-year no-trade clause.
