Exactly, Royce, this is supposed to be a thread for helping new GM's not dissecting their trades and their moves.

For me the standard has to be very, very high to reverse a trade. On top of that I don't know how rookie GM's learn without making a couple of bad trades or moves. I have made a ton of them. I anticipate I might make a few more before all is said and done.

All I can say is do your homework when making a trade. There's a ton of info out there on these players.
Yes, I intended the thread to discuss whether new GMs could benefit from advice about trading etc. The only reason I noted specific trades was because Jared suggested that there should only be involvement in cases of cheating or collusion, and I don't think that those are the only kinds of trades that can have a negative effect.

And, for the record, I'm not and have not been advocating a trade review panel or similar - I am and have been more interested in how we can best give new GMs an understanding of the trade market and how to get a good deal :)

I did all kinds of stupid moves when I started. The Bears had just missed free agency when I took over and I was extremely desperate to add some guys. I remember in particular now signing Jeff King because I thought that it was imperative that I had a starting TE. King was a restricted FA with a 2nd round tender... WTF was i thinking?
I'm surprised you guys didn't ride me out on a rail, lol. I also had a serious appetite for draft picks when I took over & traded away some really good vets for less than I should have maybe.
I appreciate the thought & intention of this thread. I also would say that in this league, just as in real life, there is some turnover every year among the GMs. Some of the new guys will be Bill Walshes & some of them will be Matt Millens.
We could write up a 50 page tutorial on how not to ruin your franchise before you even get started, but I wouldn't expect it to be read by the people that really need it.

My initial feeling is that it was lopsided. Time will tell and its only my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. As I said, maybe you can can make an argument for that one. But the other one seems to me to be just plain bad. Chandler didn't do anything to drop in value from early first to early second round. Clearly NE doesn't think he's just a second round value, as he's being offered for early to mid first. I think that if either of those offers had received some publicity, better would have been forthcoming.

The guy racked up 6 sacks and 33 tackles (18 solo) in his first 8 weeks in the league. He then suffered ankle injuries (which have not required surgery) and had no sacks after. I agree that 6 sacks as a rookie is not brilliant, but 6 over his first half season should surely not knock his value down?
Thanks for proving the point I was trying to make, after he got hurt he didn't do anything, will he go back to before he got hurt who knows, will he keep getting hurt on the same ankle who knows.

This has clearly gone off the rails from where it started. That's probably my bad for bringing specific trades into it. I used a couple of Jared's trades as examples because they were recent, but the feedback has been pretty clear from more experienced GMs that they were not unbalanced. So, apologies to Jared for any offence caused, and I'm going to just focus on positive things that can be done and would appreciate if others do the same. Cheers.
