Roster size ?

Post by stevebarrett24 »

Are we going to limit rosters to 80 like the NFL is this year or are we just going to keep the normal 90 player preaseason roster limit?

As it's just a temporary thing in the NFL for a short amount of time before the regular season, I don't think we need to change our systems and reprogram scripts around that. We'll keep ours at 90 for the time being unless that becomes more of a permanent thing going forward in the future.

How about opt outs? Going to treat those the same as a regular injury? I know we don’t use real life holdouts which seem more similar to an opt out then an injury is.

Willing to take feedback on that, and I need to research a little further, but I believe for the NFL team roster status he'd likely be put upon some kind of list so he remains on the roster under contract with them but doesn't count against their totals. In that case, we'd put him on such a list for us also. There are some cases from reality I believe kind of like this where a player takes a leave for personal reasons.

Even if a player opting out due to COVID concerns or other related reasons isn't put onto some kind of list we can also replicate, I think it's different from contract holdouts. We don't recognize contract holdouts because we have completely different contracts from reality for the most part. If someone was unhappy in reality with an old rookie contract, but in our sim league they just signed the biggest contract in league history, it doesn't make much sense that we'd carry over their real life contract bitterness to a sim environment with completely different financials.

So I would say as a default position, unless further discussed and decided differently, our sim teams would have to deal with players opting-out just like NFL teams are having to deal with that. And we'd look to mirror that as best we could in terms of effect on roster list and contract/cap impact.

That makes absolutely no sense! Just because LDT wants to opt out and be a DR in real life doesn't mean that the LDT in this sim league would also do the same. Hes still under contract in real life as he didn't retire. I watched Antonio Brown run around causing issues everywhere in the real world team less but he was still catching TD's here. Plus a opt out and a holdout are not injuries, they are personal decisions made by a living breathing human being which our sim league players are not. So does this mean we will be counting positive covid tests as injuries to?

This is where I land as well. This isn't a holdout. This isn't an injury. I think they should play here. I'd be open to QB/RB/WR/TE players using averages from last year and leaving grades as is for other players (depending on what Madden does with them grade wise...)

The fact is these players will not be active during the season. I would agree to allowing players who sit out continue on contracts here with reduced grades. Just like we would do for any other player not on an active roster (ex. Antonio Bryant last season).

I would prefer to have a COVID list to place any player who is sitting out this year.

I don't think the players who opt out should get a pass and be allowed to play. How do we know how they will perform ? How do we know that they wouldn't have gotten injured. So if my stating OG is playing and gets injured I lose him but an OG who isn't playing is deemed healthy.

I understand the opinion of those saying those who opt out shouldn’t be allowed to play. But if we keep it real to the NFL, those guys contracts must be extended an extra year like the real nfl. Shouldn’t be punished for losing a year of control since the real nfl teams aren’t being punished.

I agree with Larry, why should players be allowed to play if they choose to opt out. If a player in the NFL goes on IR, we lose that same player for the year. If they opt out in the NFL, and especially the skill players where weekly stats are crucial, weekly averages make no sense if they are not playing. Now in addition, and Troy I know your looking at this but the contract implications, why pay someone when they personally choose not to play, and yes that includes SB for that year.
