Matt Hasselbeck
Matt Hasselbeck
I have been following the Locker/Hasselbeck camp duel about as closely as anyone is, agonizing over whether my guy would win out so I'll have a starting qb. Today I started to wonder how that would play out if I have Hasselbeck starting with him on the bench for the titans. With his madden 13 grade at 85, I think he should still put up good numbers with my receivers & oline. (more my SF team than CHI) I have started QBs before in our league who were nonstarters irl (Derek Anderson) before, but never one with an 85 rating.
Commish, I was gonna pm you with some questions about this, but decided to put it in the forum for everyone's benefit. Could you explain how all that works In the sim when you get a moment?

So the rating doesn't factor in? I don't need great stats, just not awful. Hell with Vernon Davis, Mike Wallace, & Torrey Smith I don't see how he couldn't do pretty well.

Re: Matt Hasselbeck
We have two different default updates for QBs who don't play based upon lowly graded QBs versus higher graded QBs. They aren't great projections (as I don't think we should put greatness on guys sitting ont the bench) but if your offensive grades exceed the defense and the default update for QB gets max bump it ends up being pretty decent game. If you have a bad team with bad grades, of course, the default update goes downhill. We've had some teams with high grades have a default QB do pretty well at times, but mostly teams with lesser grades not give a mediocre default update much help.
I'm going to devote a couple days here soon to gearing up for the season now that football's underway in preseason, and look back at some of the previous discussions on this. I believe I mentioned looking a bit more at default updates and giving it more levels so that even if a QB sat at the end of the regular season because his team clinched or something that if he had an elite grade he'd get a more appropriate default update.
I think I also mentioned wanting to examine our end results and see if they still match what should be expected. With so many QB putting up massive numbers, I think our sim (which was written 5 years ago prior to some of the passing explosion in NFL) might need slight tweaks toward play calling and not being so conservative if our numbers are way off what players are getting in NFL.
So we'll try to take another look at default updates here as soon as this weekend. I wouldn't expect great updates (even for the greatest of grades) but I could see a bump in the defaults given and more variation for grade differences -- especially involving the yards in the update which as I recall were pretty low for today's NFL. Most updates, though, I imagine would be around 50% which brings it up to as high as 65% with a max bonus to QB through superior supporting cast. Hard to go much higher than that with default as you don't want a backup quality player on an elite sim team putting up MVP numbers I wouldn't think if the default update stated with a much higher completion pecentage and he got a max upgrade.

QB rating doesn't matter, and lets face it if he gets benched for Locker more than likely that Rating going to take a big hit to.RebelFan wrote:So the rating doesn't factor in? And QB grades don't really mean that much at all compared to other potions is what I was saying
