09: Player Updates (Retirement, Suspensions, etc.)

The league recognizes real events such as injuries, retirements, and suspensions.

This thread will be a way for other GMs to contribute in terms of us staying on top of players who Retire or are Suspended. Although we will grab injuries from the weekly injury reports, this could also be used to alert the league when players have come off PUP lists and are active to play again or other such things we wouldn't always catch to re-activate a player. We are now setup so that I don't need to change a player's status in every different league, but can make some universal settings that apply to all leagues for that player.

If you come across players who have retired or suspended but not marked as such here yet, just reply here for me to update.

Team no longer need to cut retired players, but can retain their rights if a Favre situation happens. The team would not pay the annual salary on that player any more (that turns to 0 each year) but would be on the hook still for the cap hit associated with guaranteed money signing bonus remaining. We will put a note as to the previous annual salaries in a player notes field so that if the player later returns we can re-instate his annual salaries where he left off.

I was wondering if I could get Bo Scaife change to TEWR so he helps my WR grade.

He was 7th among TE's catching. Only 2 catches behind Gates.

I hope this is the right place to put this, but I believe right now once you place a person on suspension they are out the entire season.

I would actually like having the option of putting a player on suspension, but if they should be reinstated at some point during the season, I can take them off as in the NFL.

Can we make this an option?

I also would like to know how suspensions work in more detail. Calvin Pace has been suspended for the first 4 games, so for my AFFL Arizona team I'd like to be able to not have him count towards the 53 man limit for those 4 games and then have him active after he has served the suspension.

We keep things real around here and honor NFL real injuries, retirements, and suspensions. I've updated the rosters for these retirements from NFL.com transactions. If anybody un-retired and is still active (some un-retired and re-retired) let me know. If you have one of these players and want to hold onto their rights in case they pull a Favre and come back from retirement, click the add to retirement link next to the player on your roster page. You won't have to pay annual salary any more, but SB left is still guaranteed whether you cut the player or move him to retired and must be accounted for.
