Draft Changes 2010

Post by Goodell »

The NFL draft will kick off in primetime for the first time in 2010, it was announced Thursday. The first round of the 2010 NFL Draft will start on Thursday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. ET, with the second and third rounds on Friday, April 23 at 6:30 p.m. ET, followed by Rounds 4-7 on Saturday, April 24 at 10 a.m. ET.
In previous seasons we have mostly tried to start our draft near the same time as the real one -- for example, NFL draft on Saturday/Sunday and we start ours on that Sunday.

We have plenty of time to talk about draft dates for April 2010, but getting some options for that out there while this news comes out.

Perhaps something like starting our Round 1 the Saturday of the real draft (as it would be in the 4-7 rounds) on the weekend, and then doing 1.5 to 2 rounds per day the next few days to where we'd have rounds 1, 2, and maybe 3 during the weekend and finishing up during the next weekdays. By that time, the real NFL draft over different days would have already done rounds 1-3 before we start on Saturday.

We've tended to start our draft at least after the real 1st round as where players go can effect people's decisions here on their future.

We could maybe do a quicker 1st round on Friday night during the NFL broadcast of the 2nd and 3rd rounds, but Friday nights not always the time lots of people likely to stay home.

It's too early to decide something 9 months away but the NFL changing their draft could impact how we want to schedule ours. Any thoughts?

I like this idea. We can see where some of the players have gone in the first couple of rounds. We would be able to finish the whole draft up during the week.

My preference would be to do the majority of the most important rounds (1-3) during the weekend, as outlined here.

Getting in 2.5-3 rounds from Saturday morning until Sunday night would be ideal.
AFFL- Raiders
MLBSA- Tigers
WLSB- Marlins

I would prefer to start on Saturday as well. During the week, I work outside with no access to a computer, so my vote is to do the important rounds on the weekend!
