Splitting salaries

Post by tino38 »

Is it possible to trade for a guy and have the teams agree on an exchange of money? Say I can't afford the contract at full but the other team agrees to pay half the salary to move the guy. Is this possible to do or not?

if you wait until the middle of the season :)

he gets paid by game checks. So each game he plays for the original team will get 1/16 of his salary. But then you can't use him.

You can't transfer or pay for salaries in football like you can in baseball. If you could, you'd be circumventing the cap. Only salaries owed to said player while he's on your team is paid for, not future salaries.

Keep in mind, I'm only talking about base salary. If a guy has a signing bonus, the team trading him has to pay that, not you. And depending on when you received said player, you might not have to pay the roster bonus (if applicable) either.
