Releasing Players = Waivers vs FA

Troy,
I thought about this last year, and then it slipped my mind until now. Sometimes a strategy a GM might employ is to cut a guy at a high salary, and try to re-sign them at a lower one through FA. However, if the player hasn't been in the league very long, he goes to waivers instead of FA, thus making him claimable by anyone.
This I don't have a problem with, but is there a way to prompt the GM that if released these player(s) would go on waivers and not FA? If you have a prompt letting the GM know, it might change his mind on cutting those player possibly, knowing the likelihood of them passing through waivers might be low.
I know I cut someone last year, and didn't realize they were going to go straight to waivers. That definitely would've changed my mind if prompted.
