Can someone remind me how the LTC extensions work for players entering the last year of their contract? Specifically, if I offer a 5 year extension to a player in the last year of his deal, does that add 5 years to the contract or replace the existing year (thus adding only 4)?

If a player signs a new contract today, it should essentially rip up the old and have new contract be the working contract immediately at the newly signed terms going forward.
