2011 DRAFT

Post by Goodell »

A majority of GMs overwhelmingly voted to hold our draft sooner than later, even if under the same pick-for-pick restrictions as the NFL recently, instead of waiting for an NFL labor agreement sometime this summer (hopefully).

So we are proceeding with our college draft now. Time is to be determined by GM vote:

If you haven't drafted with us before, click the Draft link in the top navigation once you are logged-in. http://www.fangm.com/football/draft.php

Choose your team's league and you'll be taken to your draft management tool.

Nobody can pick yet until we set a start date, but you can see which picks are upcoming next in the top right window -- as well as your own picks below that. At the bottom there is a place for a salary cap estimator of typical draft contracts by slot, but since we don't know if there will be a rookie scale or not (or what the details are) that will just say zero this year. Please be aware that high draft picks can be quite expensive and check previous contracts for that slot as examples.

Here's how you can get started...

Load up your draft queue for your preferred order of players to pick. If you are not online when your pick is due, the computer will pick for you based upon your draft queue order so it's important that you rate the guys you want there. Click "Add/Modify Your Draft Queue" and then sort as desired to find the guys you want to rate. You can re-arrange that order also as you go. If you just want a LB and don't care who, you can also select to add positional preferences into your queue instead of specific names. Those will be determined by the highest undrafted player at that position based upon NFL draft order.

If you don't set your draft queue and can't be online to pick when it's your time, you'll get the highest undrafted player based upon the real NFL draft selection order.

Our draft deadlines are assigned ahead of time (once we set the date/format) and you'll know exactly what day and what time you need to be online to pick by that time.

If you want to move up or down, you can post a Trade Block message from your team roster (link toward top of page) or just click the up/down arrow next to your listed picks in the draft manager. When you look at the full list of draft picks, you can see what other teams what to make a move that works for you then you can propose a trade.

When it is your turn to draft, your main draft page will obviously change to let you know you can make your pick now. You can trade your pick at anytime before your deadline passes. At that point, the system will either auto-select your top player in your queue or the highest undrafted player from NFL order if you have no queue. But you can work the phones while you are still on the clock if desired.

As discussed, we will only be allowing pick-for-pick trades just like the NFL real draft recently. Trades involving players will have to wait until the NFL/we come to new salary cap and transaction rules later this summer.

Any questions or problems?

You should now be able to submit pick-for-pick trades (click Trades from your roster page) as well as load players into your draft queue. Let me know if something not working, thanks.

Looks like rosters need to be unlocked before we can accept trades.
